Alex Pledger is Senior BACP Accredited therapist with over 20 years of clinical experience. She began practising as a therapist in 2005, starting with a few private clients straight after qualifying. As her skills and experience developed over time, she began offering supervision in 2018 and then set up My Private Practice in 2020 to offer specific help with accreditation and private practice mentoring.

Her core therapy training is integrative (person-centred, CBT and psychodynamic). Over the years, with much accumulated CPD training and development she has learned about multiple ways of working which allows her to work effectively with therapists from all different theoretical backgrounds and orientations.  She has experience of various other models and ways of working including time-limited work, therapeutic coaching and sessional work. She has worked with multiple providers including the NHS, Employee Assistance Programmes, health insurance companies (BUPA, Axa, Vita etc) charities and private organisations.

Her specialism (and passion) is working with therapists in private practice. She set up her own private practice straight after qualifying and has been working this way ever since so fully understands the complexities and challenges of private work. She works with therapists just starting out in their private practice, helping them to set up an ethical, professional and sustainable business but she also helps more experienced private practitioners to develop and grow their practice in new ways. She offers clinical supervision for private practitioners which acknowledges the unique challenges of working with clients in this context, and also blended supervision which can incorporate business development alongside the clinical work.

Alex passed her BACP accreditation first time in 2008 and her senior accreditation in 2014. During lockdown, when many therapists decided they had the time to tackle the accreditation process, she was approached and asked to help some colleagues with their application and it was from there that the accreditation e-books and service was formed. She has followed all the changes within the accreditation scheme and understands what the BACP are looking for and how to meet their criteria as simply as possible. Her advice is down to earth, constructive and supportive but also specific enough to give clear guidance on what is required and how to write the reflective criteria. She has written a range of e-books on the accreditation process and offers 1:1 support with individual applications to make sure you have the best chance of passing first time.

She has worked with many supervisees through all these stages and offers a unique form of blended supervision combining key areas which many therapists need to move their career forward. Clinical supervision is at the heart of good therapy and can combine with accreditation mentoring to make the process an engaging and valuable way of exploring your practice and the way you are working. Setting up and developing a successful private practice is a reflection of knowing how you want to work, what you can offer to clients and how to work in a way which supports your clients but also your own need for work-life balance and job satisfaction.

Many therapists have benefited from working with Alex over the years. You can find more testimonials on the Google Page.

I have found a treasure in Alex , her support starting my accreditation was second to none . Being a therapist can be lonely and finding support in Alex was lovely. What we do for our clients all the time we often take for granted , so receiving the same from Alex was an amazing experience. Such a good listener, very calm , sensitive and non judgemental. Alex created a space where I could share my fears, gain confidence and be encouraged and excited to complete my accreditation , something I had been putting off. Thank you.

I felt fully empowered by the experience of working with my private practice, I was able to focus on my input without nagging doubts at the back of my mind second guessing if my approach was correct. Thankfully My Private Practice came to my rescue more than once and motivated me to share more of my skills whilst submitting my work. Forever grateful.

Alex is an excellent coach and I am grateful for our time together. I would recommend her to any therapist that has put the time in to meet the BACPs exacting accreditation requirements but is concerned about the application process. People who hire her will not be disappointed.
